Map of San Diego's Oil Field
Cartographer:
Titus, A.B.
Date of Creation:
1920
The only known example of this map showing supposed oil drilling operations in the La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Clairemont, and Bay Park neighborhoods of San Diego, published for M. Hall Investment Co. in 1920.
The map's purpose is embodied in a tag line under the title: "It is a good business proposition to buy land near oil operations. We control the only land for sale near local developments."
Whereas oil was almost ubiquitous in San Diego's northern neighbor Los Angeles, to date, there have been essentially no commercially-viable oil discoveries in San Diego County
