Untitled Map of the World.
Cartographer:
Baille, Luc Marie
Date of Creation:
c1960
A whimsical, double hemisphere world route-map with illustrations of early forms of aviation and sea travel, was created for TAI (Transports Aeriens Intercontinetaux). The good-natured feeling can be summed up by the small notice in the bottom right corner, which explains that the map was designed "in the style of the most authentic ancient maps. However it is advisable to the Messieurs L'Aeronautes, not to use the map for directions." TAI was founded in 1946 and ultimately merged with another company in 1963 to form UTA, the Union de Transports Aériens. We can date this poster based on the fact that the airline began flying to Los Angeles in 1960.
