Le Maroc
Cartographer:
Boucher, Lucien
Date of Creation:
c.1948
Published in Morocco for Perceval, limited edition, one of 500 copies. Boucher also created a poster covering a larger area of northwest Africa than the present poster, for Credit Lyonnais.
Designed by Lucien Boucher, “an illustrator much sought after by writers both for his verve and his faithfulness to the spirit of the work he was illustrating” (Grove online), known to Air France as M. Planisphere, because of the number of maps he drew for them from 1934 to about 1970.
The French Protectorate of Morocco existed from the signing of the Treaty of Fez in 1912 until 1956. This poster was therefore produced in the last years of French rule there, during what was a turbulent period in the history of the colony.
