Carta Esferica del Reyno de Mexico
Cartographer:
Corradi, Juan D.
Date of Creation:
1802
Published in D. Juan Corradi's ‘Descubrimiento y Conquista de la America o Compendio de la Historia General del Nuevo Mundo’, Madrid, 1803. The map incorporates the latest Spanish cartography based upon Bernardo de Miera Y Pancheco's ‘Plan dela Provinca Interna de el Nuevo Mexico’, 1778. This information was not widely known until Humboldt published his map of 1811, and is therefore one of the first to depict the results of Escalante-Dominguez Expedition of 1776. It shows the ‘R.S. Buenaventura’ running southwest into the Great Salt Lake, and from the west the ‘R. de los Dolores’ reaching too far inland and nearly connecting with the lake. This misconception would continue in maps until Fremont's explorations of the 1840s.
