This charming bird’s-eye-view of downtown San Francisco looks north from above Market St. towards North Beach and Telegraph Hill. It announces and celebrates the opening of the Embarcadero Bart station, which took place on May 27th, 1976. This opening was several years after other stations because the Embarcadero Station was not originally planned to be part of the system. It was only with increased development around Lower Market that the need for the station spurred its construction.
The view is filled with delightful scenes of life in the city, as well as illustrations of its tourist destinations. The presence of the old Embarcadero Freeway towering over the Ferry Building is striking.
